There is No Spoon.
Another movie reference. Hopefully you all got it. (it was from the Matrix)
Horrific weather today so I was stuck inside, searching for inspiration for some kind of still-life shot. I quite enjoyed playing with Mickey’s shadow on day 10 (see One Last Show) so wanted to continue playing with shadows and reflections. After a bit of elbow grease was applied, I managed to get a spoon just about shiny enough to use – then I just needed something to reflect. I was looking for something with vivid colours that’d give a good reflection. I started look round the house for any patterns I could use, and came across a Scratch Map that we haven’t had chance to put back up since we moved. So with the reflective and reflector surfaces decided, I set up my mobile photo studio (3 bits of white card) to bounce the light around and brighten the shot a little. I used a bit of Blu Tack to hold the spoon in place to get the right angle for the shot, and then it was just a case of ensuring the image was sharp in the reflection and getting the exposure correct. (which I think I managed to do!) Photoshop was only needed to crop the image down, and increase the contrast slightly. Pretty straight forward today. For anyone interested, these are the settings for the shot; f/16, ISO-1600, 1/5sec, focal length 51mm. Short and simple today. But at least I don’t have to scrape the mud from my trainers again today.
Thank you for taking the time for reading the blog today.
