Evening/Morning Folks (depending where on the planet you are!). Horrible weather has kept me indoors today – so unfortunately for you it’s another still-life shot and me playing with some effects in Photoshop. The original shot is of a new clock we’ve just purchased for our living room. Exciting stuff I know! I chose it today because a.) it’s actually quite a nice clock and b.) ironically I didn’t have much time to come up with the shot today. But yet again, despite of the rushing to do this today, I still actually quite like the final effect.
Once the shot was loaded in Photoshop it was a case of getting the initial colours right and the composition (rotating and cropping) before I started playing with various different Photoshop effects. I played around with the black and white shot, but I think you’ve had enough of that recently, and then for the same reason decided against a vintage look (which probably would have suited the shot actually). In the end I stumbled across the “Glowing Edges” filter which initially gave a really nice effect. It was then just a case of playing with the filter settings to get it looking the best it could while tweaking the vibrancy, contrast and brightness.
I really like how its managed to keep the detail of the nut holding the clock hands in place, and also the smooth lines it has created around the text and numbers. If no-one has invented the neon analog clock yet, then they should have – cos I’d certainly buy one! As I said, not much time today for this blog post, but hopefully I’ll get more time tomorrow!
Thanks as always,
